Staying Safe with the Right Gear

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a key part of keeping everyone safe at the Shed. But it’s not just about putting it on – it’s about using the right gear for the job you’re doing. Whether you’re sanding, sawing, welding, or just moving materials, the right PPE helps reduce risks and makes sure you can focus on the task at hand. Remember: safety isn’t one-size-fits-all, so take a moment to check what’s appropriate before you get started.

Dust Masks

We provide P2 dust masks for members to use while working in the Shed. To make the most of them, we ask that you write your name on your mask and re-use it where appropriate, rather than taking a new one each time. Masks should be replaced if they become dirty, damaged, or hard to breathe through.

Members are also welcome to bring their own masks. You can store them safely in your locker here at the Shed, or take them home with you after each session.

When to Replace Your Mask
A dust mask should be replaced if:

  • It looks dirty or dusty on the inside.

  • It feels damp after use.

  • The straps are loose or broken.

  • Breathing through it becomes difficult.

If in doubt, swap it out. A fresh mask is better than taking risks with your health.
