Mitre Saw

Purpose:

This guide introduces the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of the Bosch GCM 12 GDL 305mm Compound Slide Mitre Saw at Merri Community Shed (MerriCS). Completion of this induction is required before unsupervised use of the saw. Please understand this is for your safety

1. Key Features of the Bosch GCM 12 GDL Mitre Saw:

– Slide Action Arm: High-precision gliding arm for smooth cuts

– Laser Guide: Improves cut line visibility and accuracy

– Adjustable Mitre and Bevel Angles: Enables a range of angled cuts

– Dust Extraction Port: Helps reduce airborne dust

2. Pre-Use Checklist:

Before each use:

– Ensure the blade is clean and secure

– Check that all guards are intact and functional

– Verify the laser guide is aligned (if in use)

– Confirm dust extraction is connected and ON

– Wear PPE (safety glasses, ear protection, dust mask, no loose clothing & no gloves)

3. Basic Operation:

– Position material flat against the fence

– Use clamps for small or angled workpieces

– Lower the blade slowly and steadily through the material

– Keep hands at least 150mm from the blade path, use a hold or safety stick

– Always return the saw to its upright position after the cut

4. Safety Tips and Restrictions:

– DO NOT cut metal, wet timber, or pressure-treated materials

– DO NOT override or disable safety features

– NEVER reach under the blade guard while the saw is plugged in

– Use only approved blades in good condition

– Ask a Session Leader or experienced member if unsure

5. After Use:

– Turn off the saw and dust extractor

– Clear offcuts and vacuum the saw, bench and floor area

– Log any issues or concerns with the Session Leader

– Return PPE, clamps, and accessories to their correct storage
